- Before you rely on this
This toolbox is deliberately unfinished. It was built fast, for one gathering, and the most useful things in it will come from the people who use it.
What we are asking for
Four things, in order of how much they would help.
- A text from your tradition. The sacred text section should eventually hold something from every tradition that touches this work, with a few sentences in your own voice about why it grounds you. This is the one contribution only you can make.
- Help building the Black church section. Section 2 says plainly that the major Black church denominations have no institutional immigration infrastructure, and that this toolbox has to create rather than curate there. That work should not be done by people outside those traditions. If you want to shape it, say so.
- What worked. You held a forum, ran a Know Your Rights training, adopted an ICE protocol, wrote your sheriff, got a bad answer, got a good one. Tell us. Someone else is about to try the same thing.
- Corrections. A dead link, a changed phone number, a resource that turned out to be useless, a fact we got wrong. Especially the local details — those are where being wrong does the most damage.
How to send it
Email Ashrei, or use the sacred text submission form below. It stays open. If a section grows enough to need its own page, we will give it one.
Open on an ongoing basis — send a text, a citation, and why it matters to you.
Your neighborhood network
The most practical thing on this entire website, and the one most likely to matter at 6am on a bad morning: get two phone numbers of clergy in your area. Not a listserv, not a coalition — two people close enough to reach in ten minutes.
Fill in this much, keep it in your wallet and your phone, and give a copy to whoever answers your church or synagogue or mosque phone:
- Two clergy near me: ______________________ · ______________________
- My congregation’s ICE protocol lives: ______________________
- Who has a key and can be here in 15 minutes: ______________________
- Nearest congregation with Spanish-language capacity: ______________________
- STL Rapid Response: 314-370-7080
- MICA Project intake: 314-995-6995 ext. 2
- Legal Services of Eastern Missouri, immigration: 314-256-8705
- Detention hotline, from inside a facility: 9233#
